Laura Guarnaccia, LMSW, MSEd

IMG_2387.jpeg

Laura’s therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that children should not feel stress in their lives. With her characteristic warmth and humor, she creates environments that allow children to feel safe and comfortable with sharing their honest feelings.

Her past experiences as a Reggio-Emilia preschool teacher ignited her passion for nurturing children in play-based, child-led settings. Feeling drawn towards a deeper understanding of children's behaviors and each child’s unique development, Laura pursued training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). Laura is committed to understanding what a child’s behavior really means in collaboration with the parents, trusting and relying on parents as partners in the therapeutic process.

With older children, Laura also believes in cultivating an environment which allows them to have power and control while nurturing their confidence and emerging capacity for independence.

Laura’s dual degree in education and social work helps her to tacitly understand the perspective of a teacher and how to effectively approach school interventions and consultations.

In her free time Laura is learning Italian, training for a half marathon, and trying new bakeries in Astoria. Her current favorite is Under Pressure Cafe.
