Mayan Abecasis, LMSW

Mayan’s passion for children’s growth and intervention was first sparked while working in the publishing industry where she managed children’s books and products. Her unique professional background led her to psychotherapy, where she felt she could make the most meaningful impact in supporting children and families. Inspired by her time living in various countries, she specializes in supporting immigrant families and children. After working in a hospital setting, she learned that she felt most drawn towards direct practice with children and families.

Mayan Abecasis, a Licensed Master Social Worker, received her Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University in 2019. In addition to private practice, Mayan spends her time working as a psychotherapist in schools and other outpatient clinics. She pulls from her training in cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. Dedicated to lifelong learning, she has continued her professional training as a candidate in the child and adolescent program at the William Alanson White Institute, where she is honing her psychodynamic skills in interpersonal therapy.
